George Allan Storey

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 12, 2015. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (nee French); predeceased by his brother Roy (“Red”) Storey and his sisters Irene, Ruth and Helen. Survived by his daughter Janet (Ed), son Dean (Geri) and son John (Ashton) and granddaughters Danielle and Natasha; and many nieces and nephews. George’s passion was living life to its fullest. He was happiest when he had something to do which it seemed was every moment of every day. He wore “many hats” as he liked to say, giving his best to everything he put his mind to. He was a sports writer and played football, hockey and baseball. His proudest and most colourful time in his life came when he coached Junior hockey, drawing the biggest crowds the sport had ever seen and taking some players into the NHL. A stand-out highlight would be winning the 1953 Memorial Cup with the Barrie Flyers. However, these were all hobbies and recreational passions of George. His life-time achievement and success came as a long-time executive in the pipeline industry and then as President of his own company for the next 35 years. An entrepreneur by nature, he never ceased to think about other things he could be doing or branching out into. The passions of his heart included helping anyone who came across his path with his time and resources. He touched thousands of people with his charity and kind heart. George enjoyed watching football, hockey, baseball and, later in life, soccer of which he liked to complain about. He engaged in curling and golfing both recreationally and competitively and for charity. One of his favourite times of year was the annual Temagami fishing week with his friends. George was fortunate to have traveled the globe from east to west coast of entire North America to Copenhagen to Italy to South America throughout his career in the energy industry. George was a vibrant, powerful man and had a “presence” that just drew people to him naturally. The days for those of us whose paths he crossed are a little empty and lonely today without him in it, but the love and memories and the philosophies he has given us will sustain us and fill our hearts with smiles in time. George Storey’s famous line which epitomizes his life was, “HOW CAN I HELP YOU? WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU? DO YOU NEED ANYTHING?”, which he meant sincerely every time he said it which was often. Thank you, George, for your generous love and all the memories. Your absence from our lives will be deeply felt by your family and friends and the countless many who crossed your path. George never let a day go by without appreciating every breath he took, however, he missed his wife Barbara, the light and love of his life of more than 50 years. God be with you, Dad, and may the Angels keep you safe and take you to Mom. Visitation will be held at the TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME-NEWMARKET CHAPEL, 524 Davis Drive, 905-898-2100 on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 1:00-4:00pm & 6:00-9:00pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Trinity Anglican Church, 79 Victoria Street, Aurora on Thursday, December 17 at 11:00am. Following the Funeral Service a Celebration of George’s Life will be held at the Summit Golf Club, 11901 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill from 1:00-4:00pm. Donations in memory of George may be made to either Yellow Brick House or The Lung Association.
