Shirley Jean Hopkins

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Shirley, 95, on September 10, 2022, in Newmarket. She was the wife of late Robert “Bob” Hopkins and predeceased by her siblings Charles, Gerald, Lillian, Doris, Royden, Emery, Catherine, Elmer, Dana, Austin, and Caroline. She will be deeply missed by her children Rodney (Joanne), Carolyn (Pete), Janice (Jo’el), Richard (Keri), her grandchildren Derek (Lauren), Carly (Zachary), her great grandchildren Lily and Finn. Shirley was born in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick to Mildred and Eugene Bleakney on March 22, 1927. She was an outgoing woman who loved to socialize and had an amazing sense of humour. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, reading, curling, quilting, and playing cards with friends. A remembrance gathering will be held at the family home in Keswick on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. for family and friends. Please contact the family for details. Visitation will be held at the Lougheed Funeral Home, Hanmer/Capreol Chapel (4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer) on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., with words of remembrance at 1 p.m. Interment will take place in the Valley East Cemetery at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Georgina.
