Dennis Patrick Wray

1933 — December 16, 2018

Wray, Dennis Patrick

Born on March 17, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario on December 16, 2018 at the age of 85 years.  Dennis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Lang) Wray. Mourning the loss of their father are Chris (Mary), Karen Newell (Neil Bayley-Hay) and Heather Betts (Mike).  His warmth and humour will be missed by his grandchildren; David (Jazzmin), Kristin, Kelly (Josh), Patrick (Rachel), Nick & Hayden and his great-grandchildren; Hudson, Paisley, Penelope, Campbell and Easton. Son of the late Joseph and Ella Wray, he is predeceased by his sister Barbara (Don) and brother Michael (Shelley). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Dennis attended the University of Toronto, where he graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Engineering. Dennis met his wife Betty, “on the bus” while attending the University of Toronto. Dennis started his career with Avro Aircraft and moved on to successfully run a business partnership in the fledgling Information Technology industry where he installed the very first Air Canada seat reservation system.  Dennis was a former community member of the Baha’i Faith taking on an active role on the LSA in both East Gwillimbury and Scarborough communities.  Dennis also spent time working at the Baha’i National Centre.  Dennis spent many years as a consultant eventually moving on to work for CCSI Technology Solutions Corp. finally retiring at the young age of 73. Having a keen interest in photography, most people in East Gwillimbury will remember him on area roads as a long distance runner, while those in Keswick may have seen him enjoying one of his scenic bike rides along the shores of Lake Simcoe. He had a love of pets and will be missed by Duffy.  Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His sharp wit, dry sense of humour and knowledge that could have easily carried him to his favourite TV show, Jeopardy, will carry on forever in the hearts and memories of those who were close to and loved him.  Dennis also liked to spend time in Florida where he and Betty had a condo on Sanibel Island for a number of years.  A special thanks to daughter Karen who looked after his many medical appointments and care and to the staff at Amica Newmarket, Whispering Pines in Barrie and Matthews House Hospice who ensured his comfort. In keeping with Dennis’ wishes no service will be held.  Dennis’ wife Betty and his family have arranged for a celebration of life at the Whispering Pines Retirement Residence at 140 Letitia St in Barrie on Saturday, December 22nd at 2:00 p.m. For those wishing to donate, the family suggests the Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to M.W. Becker Funeral Home, Keswick. Sign an online book of condolences at mwbeckerfuneralhome.com
