Eugene Lake

1961 — January 17, 2011

With the heaviest of hearts the family of Eugene Lake said good bye to their hero on January 17, 2011 at Southlake Regional Health Center after a short, hard and heroic battle with cancer. Known mostly as “NEWF”, he was a giver to all who knew him. He gave his time and knowledge to any friend who needed a car fixed or a roof shingled. “No” was not in his vocabulary when it came to helping someone out. He was an avid lover of golf and pitched in the Men’s Fastball League at West Park for over 15 years. He was a proud Newfoundlander, dedicated to his words “you don’t get what you want, you get what you need”. Through his brave and courageous battle with cancer he still managed to work until the very end. He was known for driving the Pink Stadia Glass truck from Toronto to Keswick and over the years earned the respect of his colleagues. He was always great to have a laugh with or you could listen to his theologies of how the world “should work”. Quietly, yet deeply religious, Eugene left our world confident in the comfort of eternal life and headstrong that his children were members of the church before he left. There is not a soul that enjoyed his company that will not miss “NEWF”. As he embarks on a never-ending “fishing trip” with his Dad and Grandpa Cochrane, he leaves behind his loving wife and best friend Leeann, and 8 children: Eugene Jr (Virginia Mouland), Greg (Heather Reid), Kirk, Amber (Derek Ottaway), Jaylene, Murray, Lilly and Ella. He also leaves a grieving mother Stella Lake, grandmother Mary Cochrane and 5 siblings: Patrick (Francine), Bernadette (Norm), Thomas (Fran), Sharon (Gary) and Lorraine (Ambrose) in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. Precious son-in-law to Rod and Audrey Murray of Newmakret and brother-in-law to Angi (Mike) Byblow of Barrie. Dear uncle to Sara, Nicole, Brad, Christopher, Mitchel, Alyssa, Meagan, Maggie, Jordon, Brittany, Brooklyn, Jaiden, Emma and Layleigh. Cherished grandfather to Hunter Lake and godfather to Theresa King. Eugene is pre-deceased by his father Tom Lake. “NEWF” will be sadly missed by many dear friends, co-workers and team members. Visitation from M.W. Becker Funeral Home LTD. on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service from Keswick Christian Church (Corner of Woodbine and Old Homestead) on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. If desired, donations to a Family Fund, would be appreciated by the family. Bank # 004 Branch # 542 (TD) Acct. # 639 7118
