John William Opferkuch

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John William Opferkuch, who passed away peacefully at home in Keswick, Ontario, on Sunday, December 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 19, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario, a devoted husband to Valerie Opferkuch, they shared a life filled with adventure, love and laughter. Proud father to Jamie (Jodi) and Bob (Tiffany). John cherished his role as grandfather to Jamie, Sadie, and Owen, as well as great-grandfather to Jack and Stella. John is survived by his siblings Ken (Christine), Barb (Gary), and Linda. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce, who also fought a brave battle with cancer. A man of boundless energy and a zest for life, John found his greatest joy in creating unforgettable moments for his family and friends. He loved traveling to sunny destinations, with Florida holding a special place in his heart. Known for his quick wit and humor, John had a knack for brightening any room with his latest jokes, creating smiles and laughter for all. The family extends special thanks to all the caregivers who supported John in his final days, particularly Shay, whose kindness and compassion were invaluable. John will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. To honor John’s memory, a celebration of life will be held in June when the summer sun shines and the warm weather he loved so much returns. In the meantime, cheers to John — raise a rum and diet coke in his honor!
